Bring your Hotmail / Outlook.com mail to NightOwl

Hotmail, Outlook.com, Live and MSN are all the same Microsoft mailbox. Turn on forwarding once, and every new email also arrives in NightOwl Mail, with the name of the person who wrote it. Your Hotmail keeps its own copy. It takes about 2 minutes.

Before you start

  • Have your NightOwl address handy, for example yourname@nightowlmail.ca. It ends in .ca, not .com.
  • Use a computer if you can. The Outlook phone app doesn't have this setting; on a phone, open outlook.com in the web browser instead.

Turn on forwarding (7 clicks)

  1. On a computer, go to outlook.com and sign in with your Hotmail or Outlook address.
  2. Click the gear ⚙️ (Settings) at the top right.
  3. Click Mail, then Forwarding.
  4. Turn on Enable forwarding.
  5. In the box, type your NightOwl address (the one ending in @nightowlmail.ca).
  6. Tick Keep a copy of forwarded messages, so your Hotmail keeps everything too.
  7. Click Save. That's it!

✅ Check it works: from any other email, send a message to your Hotmail address. Within a minute it shows up in NightOwl, from the person who sent it.

If something looks different

  • "Forwarding" is missing or greyed out: Microsoft sometimes asks you to confirm your account first (a code by text or email). Do that, then start again at step 2.
  • Nothing arrives: check that the address ends in .ca. Look once in NightOwl's Spam folder; if a message is there, open it and tap Restore to Inbox.
  • Want to stop? Same place in Outlook.com: turn off Enable forwarding and click Save.

Your contacts

  1. In outlook.com, click the People icon on the left.
  2. Click Manage contacts (or the ⋯ menu), then Export contacts, choose All contacts and click Export. A file is saved on your computer.
  3. In NightOwl Mail, open Contacts, tap Import contacts and pick that file. Done: your contacts are in.

Your older emails

Forwarding brings your new mail from now on. Your older Hotmail emails stay safe in Hotmail, and you can open them at outlook.com any time.

Replying

When you answer from NightOwl, your reply comes from your new NightOwl address. Let people know: in NightOwl, Tell my contacts my new address sends your new address to everyone in one fun email.
